Guwahati, Oct 12: Zubeen Garg, known for his aversion to politics, has left his family troubled as political factions attempt to leverage his passing for their gain.
In a conversation with a local news outlet, Zubeen’s uncle, Manoj Barthakur, expressed his discontent, stating, “It appears that political entities are trying to turn Zubeen’s unfortunate demise into a campaign issue, which is disheartening.” He recalled Zubeen’s own words, “Politics nakariba bandhu” (Don’t engage in politics, friend), highlighting the irony of the situation as his death becomes a focal point for political agendas.
Barthakur emphasized that Zubeen's supporters are calling for a fair investigation, urging all political parties to unite in seeking justice rather than engaging in political disputes. He insisted that the inquiry into Zubeen's death must be conducted without bias and that the state should present a unified front on this matter.
Expressing concern over certain social media reactions, Barthakur urged individuals with opinions about Zubeen's tragic passing to approach the special investigation team directly instead of airing grievances online. He noted that some individuals have even made inappropriate comments about Garima Saikia Garg, which he found regrettable.
Regarding Zubeen’s manager, Siddhartha Sharma, who has been detained by the special investigation team, Barthakur revealed that Sharma had distanced Zubeen from his friends and family. He mentioned that Zubeen was unaware of his earnings and relied heavily on his manager for financial matters. “Sharma determined the fees for each event, and Zubeen was oblivious to these details,” he stated.
Barthakur also called on the Government to ensure that the intellectual property rights of Zubeen’s creations remain with his family. He urged that if any rights are held by producers, steps should be taken to restore them to the family.
